The Recreation Department offers high quality leisure programs and services that promote healthy and active lifestyles. The Adaptive Day Program, fitness activities, and social opportunities allow individuals and families with special needs the opportunity to meet their physical and social goals.

DUTIES

  • Develops, plans, and implements daily operations of adaptive programs offered by the Troy Recreation Department, in coordination with the Adaptive Recreation Supervisor.
  • Practices excellent customer service and preventative safety.
  • Oversees adaptive aides and volunteers for specific adaptive programs, implementing and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Monitors adaptive programs to ensure that activities are running smoothly and safely.
  • Handles problems, complaints, and discipline promptly and take proper corrective action. Advise supervisor of any problems as soon as possible.
  • Assure that all participants have current emergency information on file, and assess for individual needs and/or safety concerns.
  • Meet with supervisor as needed to discuss program developments and processes.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school degree or GED equivalent
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting with participants, staff, aides, and family members.
  • Proficient with computer software programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan Driver License with a good driving record (based on city standards).
  • As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).

PREFERENCES

  • Prefer one (1) year of recent work experience in the adaptive field, recreation planning, or closely related field.
  • Prefer one (1) year of experience planning and implementing staff and volunteer schedules.
  • Prefer background or interest in Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, or closely related field.

HOURS

Part-time, 15-20 hours per week.

Schedule and availability must be attentive to programming and customer service needs. Regular schedule is 3 days per week as follows: Tuesday and Thursday 9a-3:30p, one additional 5-hour day (to be determined upon hire). Additional hours for occasional special events which may include evening hours.
